May assist Insomnia –  Homeopathy for Sleep

Can’t sleep!  I can help! Read on!

Online BookingBeing unable to sleep can be one of the most frustrating conditions. Good news is that Homeopathy may assist insomnia! People often complain that they feel alone, isolated by their wakefulness when everyone around them is deep in the arms of Morpheus. Yet insomnia is very common. Sleep troubles affect 25 per cent of people at some point, and over ten per cent of the adult population have a chronic problem with insomnia.

Setting yourself up for a good night sleep often will sort out the issue.   This should start at least about an hour before actually slipping into bed.  It will train your brain that it is time to shut down and rest.  Establishing an evening “shut down” ritual can be most soothing for body, mind and soul.

Here are some suggestions that may assist Insomnia:Insomnia and Homeopathy : May assist Insomnia : Homeopathy for Sleep

  • Start with just a light supper! Heavy meals require a lot of digestion time which requires a lot of energy.  Not helpful for sleeping!
  • Create a consistent time each evening that you put your day aside!
  • To assist with slowing down, take a long relaxing bath or shower.
  • No caffeinated drinks should be consumed at least several hours before bedtime. Alternatives are just water or herbal teas.
  • Minimise alcohol consumption.
  • Replace looking at your devices by either reading (a novel or a magazine) or listening to music.
  • Essential Oils may also assist greatly for a sound sleep (more on this later)
  • Keep devices out of the bedroom
  • Gentle stretching may assist with releasing tension from the day.
  • Meditation or prayer – a good time for reflection and gratitude.

Personally, I love water, my essential oils and candles.  I make lists of what I have forgotten or need to do the next day and leave them on my desk so it is out of my head.  My family and friends know that I do not answer my phone after 9 pm, it’s on silent.

What is important for you to know is that a good night sleep just doesn’t happen without some mindfulness and checking in with your body.

Sometimes, despite all our good intentions, we still need some assistance:

There are quite a few homeopathic remedies that may help.  Having an awareness of what happens during your sleep cycle can be helpful in deciding the most appropriate remedy.

There are all sorts of reasons for insomnia including (but not limited to):

Difficulty falling asleep:

Try Aconite: Which may assist those who suffer anxiety. Aconite may help the person who panics on going to bed, whether an adult or for children.  Arsenicum albummay help the restless, meticulous type of person who cannot get off to sleep because they must get everything ordered in their mind.

Being a light sleeper:

Very common in mums who become hypervigilant or the nervous types of individuals. For light sleepers or overstimulation (for adults) – you could try Coffea which may be of assistance for those who wake from the lightest background noises and cannot get back to sleep.  Often you may feel jittery and overstimulated.  Nux Vomica may be useful after over-indulgence in stimulants, food and drink including alcohol, coffee and energy drinks.

Frequent waking:

The choice of remedy here depends on the nature of the person and the reason why they are waking up frequently.  Most common cause is stress and worry.  For women, remedies like Pulsatilla or Sepia may assist with hormonal imbalances.

Early morning waking and not being able to get back to sleep:

(for those who wake at 3 or 4 am).  This can often be tracked back to our body systems and we may need to look at liver support remedies like Nux Vomica but there are many others.

The most common cause of restlessness in children is worms.  Cina, given once a month may be useful.  I have seen great results time and time again with this remedy.

Too tired, overtired or overstimulated:

Also common with children. Useful remedies that may be helpful include but not limited to is Aconite,Chamomilla and Stramonium.

Recurring bad dreams or nightmares:

Another common issue is seen in children.  Useful remedies to consider include Phosphorous, Pulsatillaand Calcarea Carbonica.

The most common remedies that may assist with pain include Arnica for that bruised, sore feeling, Hypericum for nerve pain and Rhus Tox for arthritic pains.

Sometimes it can be a simple thing like adding in some extra magnesium into your diet or in a supplement that will give you that blissful night’s sleep.  Or a dose of Rescue Remedy that soothes and calms the nerves.
