Wow! Can you believe that it is March already and what an incredible start to the year. First there was a drought, then the gut wrenching fires that have affected so many and then the much welcome rain!
Although it doesn’t stop there, as we can’t currently turn on the television or radio without hearing talk about the corona virus. Rest assured that there is No need to panic!
The corona virus is another strain of flu virus, just like any other flu. It spreads when an infected person coughs or sneezes, similar to that of other flus and respiratory viruses, interestingly most people who have been infected are recovering (we are talking 98% of those affected).
Something to consider: The CDC estimates 20.4 million to 23.6 million people have become ill and as many as 26,700 have died from influenza this season. Influenza has caused up to 302,000 people to be hospitalized, a rate of 32.1 per 100,000 people. These figures should hopefully provide you with some perspective in this matter.
Flu epidemics are never good, regardless of the strain of the virus. Most deaths recorded though are the elderly, and those who are unwell or immune compromised to begin with.
So, what can you do to minimise your chances of getting sick this flu season? The following reminders may be of some assistance:
- Use common sense! Pay attention to your hygiene (washing hands) and surroundings.
- Boost your immune system, Good nutrition is paramount, with attention to consuming lots of fresh vegetables and vegetable juices.
- Vitamin C and Immune Herbs, along with the HomeoFlu Immune Mix also may be of some assistance.
- You should also bring mindfulness into your day to day business, ensuring that you find time to rest and get a good night’s sleep.
Illnesses (including catching the flu) don’t just happen; they occur when our internal environment is out of balance.
An analogy: A beautiful, healthy garden needs good soil to thrive. Disease, pests and parasites can only occur if the soil is out of balance.
It is the same with us: The ‘Soil’ refers to your:
- Immune system
- Resilience to stress
- Balance (good nutrition, sleep, rest & play)
- What we have inherited
When we are run down, eat poorly and stress takes a hold, we become weakened and more susceptible for viruses and bacteria to take a hold.
