The term ‘cognition’ refers to the mental processes involved in gaining knowledge and comprehension = Learning. This includes thinking, knowing, remembering, judging and problem solving.
ALWAYS start with Nutrition
Ensure your children eat a nutritious breakfast – high sugar breakfasts (cereals, white toast, flavoured yoghurts/milk and fruit juices) affect concentration. Choose healthy organic wholegrain cereal/breads. Eggs are also a great way to start the day, as the protein lays down good sustained energy foundations, helping kids stay focused for longer. In fact eggs could be considered a multi vitamin.
ADD in extra
Zinc, Vitamin C and fish oils! These not only support brain development but boost the immune system too.
Supplementing with a highly purified and concentrated fish oil, containing therapeutic levels of EPA and DHA, is vital to support your child’s developing brain.
Quick Tips for Boosting Brain Power
There are some simple things you can do to help support your developing child’s learning and information centre:
- Get your children to bed at a reasonable time. Children need more sleep than adults and lack of sleep can negatively affect their learning.
- Get into a regular routine and stay consistent. This will make the start and end of the day less stressful for everyone.
- Encourage your kids to talk about their day. This helps them develop their communication skills and can give you valuable insight into how what is going on in their lives.
